This year Janet and I will again be riding with our sister Carol as "The B-Team" -- you can read more about the team on our Facebook page. Please take a moment to click the "Like" button so you can get updates and follow our progress.

As in years past, we're putting in the miles and logging our rides on the beautiful roads of Bucks County -- posting photos, stories and stats.

In 2008 we rode in the 29th running of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge and together we raised over $28,000. You can read our training blog from 2008 and see the live updates we posted from the ride itself here.

About The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge
The PMC has grown considerably and consistently from its modest beginnings into an event that draws more than 5,000 cyclists, who hail from 36 states and eight countries.

Now in its 30th year, the PMC raised over $30 million from the efforts put forth by PMC cyclists on August 1 and 2, 2009. To date, the PMC has raised $270 million that has been used to improve the lives of those suffering with cancer. It is the largest single contributor to the Jimmy Fund, bringing in nearly 50 percent of its annual revenue.

The 31st Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, with its $31 million fundraising goal, takes place August 7th and 8th, 2010.

Provincetown!

Go B-Team! We made pretty good time all day; Janet & I averaged 15.6 most of
the way. Last 5 miles of dunes and wind were tough, but that just makes the
beer taste better!

What a ride. The whole weekend was amazing. Time to kick back, eat, and
recuperate.

The end of a perfect day

The end of a perfect day, originally uploaded by btitus.

What a great day this has been. We had a wonderful ride with great weather,
great support and unbelievable inspiration from everyone along the way.

Now we're relaxing on the lawn at MMA, taking in the live music and enjoying
a beautiful evening with our 5000+ PMC friends.

Tomorrow we get our wake-up call at 4:30 and we'll haul ourselves out of bed
to do it all again. As we're doing another 80 miles, I hope someone out
there will be inspired make a difference in the lives of those fighting
cancer right now.

Thanks for your support. bit.ly/pmc_bteam

Here we are at mile 74 and the last waterstop before Bourne. Less than 10
miles to go and then day 1 is finished!

Janet and I did a nice quick leg together and boosted our overall average up
over 15mph. I guess all that training worked!

We made great time this morning and rolled into the lunchstop at 10:30. Met
up with friend Chris from TeamBrent -- they came from Sturbridge.

This is probably the best day for riding that we've had all summer. Cool and
dry, couldn't have asked for more.

Back on the road soon, will check in at the next waterstop.

PMC2010 Eve: Registered & Relaxing. Fundraising passes $14K!

Well, here it is, the night before PMC! We got to Boston early afternoon, picked up Janet's sister Carol and drove back down to Wellesley to register. We were so early this year that they had barely even started when we arrived. We quickly picked up our packets and then set about trying on the jerseys for size. After a little semi-sanctioned swapping (sorry PMC staff!), we all ended up with the sizes that felt right.

We're now relaxing back at Carol's place in South Boston, preparing for a delicious pasta & grilled chicken dinner with friends. We'll get up very early tomorrow to get ourselves to Wellesley by about 5:30 am; the official start is slated for 7:00. Saturday weather is still looking perfect -- highs in the upper 70s... WHAT?!

In other news, we passed $14,000 in fundraising today. Thanks so much Kevin P, that was an incredibly generous donation and it put us over the 14K mark!

Last training ride of 2010 - Next stop: Wellesley, MA!

Well, here we are, the very last training ride of 2010. All in all, we've had a good training season this year, logging over 860 miles on the roads of PA and NJ. We wanted to hit 1,000, but alas the heatwave of 2010 kind of hemmed us in to weekend-only morning rides. Still, we're happy with what we've accomplished and we feel like we're very well prepared for the ride next weekend.

Today was definitely not the hoped-for repeat of yesterday, in terms of weather. It was still fairly cool, but unlike yesterday, overcast and humid. We got out around 9:15 and rode out of Newtown Borough on Linton Hill, then took Stoopville Rd toward darkening skies. We stuck to one of our standard routes and made sure to do one last climb on Thompson Mill in the middle of it.

After returning home, we quickly cleaned up and then took a walk with the kids over to State Street Kitchen for a tasty little brunch. The dark clouds finally opened up around 1:15, so we're pleased we got our ride in early!

We're really looking forward to next weekend -- the extended forecast looks good, and we can't wait to join the thousands of other riders on road to Provincetown. We'll be posting live updates from the ride here, so all you loyal blog readers will be able to follow along. So long for now, see you next week in Wellesley!

Into the homestretch

Way back in January when we signed on for the 2010 PMC ride, who would have thought we'd be looking at (potentially) the hottest year on record and weeks (months?) of consecutive 90+ degree days? Digging out from under the many feet of winter snow, we did know that we'd have to hit the roads and rattle our fundraising networks if we wanted to get to August 7 in physical and financial shape for the ride.

From zero miles and zero dollars on January 12, we are now at 840 miles and $12,040 dollars. And, we're just 7 days away from the event we've been looking forward to for 8 months.

We woke up this morning to the kind of day we've wished for for a month -- sunny, cool, dry -- perfect for a training ride. Since this is our last weekend of training, we're just out to put on a few miles and stay limber for the real thing next week. So, we picked a nice easy loop around the area; mostly flat, but with a trip over Thompson Mill Rd to keep us honest.

What a difference the cooler temperature made! We felt great and it was actually enjoyable to be on the road. Hopefully we'll have another great ride tomorrow, and then it's time to clean up the bikes, pack the bags, and hit the road for Boston.

Distance: 26.8 miles. Total training miles: 838.9

Passing 800 miles and $11K, plus... a break in the heat?

After the brutal heat and humidity of yesterday's ride, we figured we'd better try to get out at around the same time this morning. The weather prediction for the day had the morning looking pretty similar to yesterday (just a few degrees cooler), but also had a "cold front" arriving after noon. Sure enough it was a bit cooler, and between that and an improvement in air quality and humidity, we had a much more comfortable ride.

We picked out a route this morning that put us on a very long section of River Road; from Lurgan all the way out to Lumberville. We stopped for a few minutes at the Inn at Phillips Mill and Janet visited with 3 horses housed in the stables there. Then it was on to Lumberville and a quick coffee and treat at the General Store.

Coming home we once again climbed Greenhill to Peddler's Village, and then took Street Rd from there. We were more careful today not to overdo it, and by the time we hit Creamery and the home stretch, we felt much stronger than we did yesterday.

We had a great fundraising week, and thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we're now at $11,405 -- 91% of the way to our $12,600 team commitment! It feels like the finish line is in sight... in terms of fundraising, that is. Thank you everyone!

Distance: 39.4 miles. Total training miles: 811.6

The rigors of training

The rigors of training, originally uploaded by btitus.

It's another hot morning here in Bucks County, PA. Right now we're 20 miles
in to our 35+ route. Croissants and coffee may not be the best in cycling
nutrition, but it sure gives us something to look forward to...

Full blog post later, this is another technology test in prep for the ride
in 2 weeks.
